Auto Locks
Don’t let yourself become the victim of auto theft
The choices for automotive security are numerous – you can get anything from car shields to alarm systems to auto locks.
While the most commonly used type of auto security is the alarm system, it’s not always your best option. Similar to motorcycle alarms, they aren’t the most visible security system so they don’t always act as a theft deterrent. Instead, an alarm is a reaction to a break in that may have already caused extensive damage to your vehicle.
The Vast Selection
To increase the likelihood that a thief will skip right over your precious possession and move onto the next automobile that looks a little less protected, you’re going to want to make sure that your lock is visible and durable. You have a lot of choice when it comes to auto security:
- >Steering wheel locks: attach to your steering wheel and prevent it from turning
- Wheel locks: cuff your tire and make it immovable
- Brake locks: attach to brakes and prevent wheel from turning
- Gear shift locks: locks the gear shift in place
- Fingerprint door locks: provide biometric door security
- Hood locks: secure your hood closed
- Tailgate locks: latch your tailgate
- Fuel door locks: prevent access to your fuel tank
- Ignition locks: refuse to allow the ignition to turn over
Each of these mechanisms tends to be quite visible and secured by locking devices, such as padlocks or keys locks.
Protect Yourself from Auto Theft
It’s important to install visible theft protection in the form of auto locks because it’ll help deter thieves from attempting to break into your vehicle. There are several other things you can do to protect yourself from theft:
- Don’t let your guard down. Most people assume that theft is a big city problem, but the truth is the highest theft areas are often suburbs where there’s a lot of opportunity to grab a number of different types of vehicles easily. Just because you’re at home doesn’t mean that your car is secure!
- Always use your locks. The majority of stolen cars are basically given away – they’re unlocked or the keys are in the ignition.
- Keep your vehicle visible. Park where there’s lots of light and people. Thieves want the quickest and easiest job so they’ll avoid anything that attracts a lot of attention.
Make it difficult to get to your vehicle. Again, thieves are looking for the easy grab. They’re also often looking for a particular make or model. If you know that your car is high on the list of the most stolen vehicles, block it in your driveway with a less appealing vehicle. If possible, park in your garage or behind a locked fence.
